Exeter Voices/Future Stories
Are you ready to imagine the Exeter of tomorrow?
We would like to arrange a recording session with you to find out how you imagine the Exeter of tomorrow:
How is Exeter different from other places and how can it be different
or better in the future?
What are your hopes and dreams for the environment you and
your family live in?
What will the city look like in the future?
What will a Sunday afternoon stroll reveal?
Send your neighbours a message from the future,
describing what Exeter is like in years to come
Exeter Voices/Future Stories is a light and sound artwork for the window of Maketank on Paris Street. It consists of 5 colourful illuminated 'voice portals' that will give up stories, descriptions and reflections on the future of Exeter imagined by local residents and to be viewed and listened to by passers-by from the street.
Often, we take for granted many aspects of the place we live. We plan to change this and inspire a city that genuinely reflects us and our communities. We want to create a space for the expression of your thoughts, ideas and imagination so we can all think about the possibilities for making our city a better place to live.
We want to hear from all ages and backgrounds, whether you have lived here for a short time or a long time. A few thoughts and sentences on some of these questions is all we need. They can be in the form of very short stories, a description of how particular things might be or can just express your feelings and hopes for the future.
Our chat with you will be recorded (sound only) to create a collage of people's voices and sounds, which will emerge from the series of light 'portals'. It may be easiest to collect your thoughts first before the arranged recording session with a few questions and prompts from us. It should only take a few minutes to record and any mistakes can be re-done and edited. All recordings will be anonymous and will only be used for the temporary artwork and online audio archive.
If you would like to participate, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org before the end of the newest national lockdown with the subject line 'Exeter Voices'. This can be done via the 'Submit Interest' button below. Alternatively, you can call us on 01392 757787 to arrange a recording session.
We look forward to hearing from you!
