Ting-a-ling-a-ling, my blossoms! Isabella loves to share stories from her incredible bicycling adventures in the wilds of the world. She has outwitted mountain trolls, sung opera with donkeys and ridden a pixy horse across Dartmoor. When the doors of Isabella’s theatre on the back of her bicycle open wide she will whisk you away to another world.

Isabella Necessity travels to festivals, fetes and fayres to tell traditional tales from Britain and around the world with the help of Dilys, her unique Story Bicycle and faithful companion. With engaging storytelling, gorgeous hand-made illustrations and delightful puppets Isabella’s shows are charming and fun for all ages.

The Story Bicycle is inspired by Japanese visual storytelling called kamishibai (paper theatre) that was popular in Japan in the 1920’s-50’s, and is having an international resurgence today. Stories are told by revealing a series of illustrations and Isabella includes 2D and 3D puppets, she is one of a handful of people telling kamishibai stories with a bicycle in the UK.

For this event, Isabella will perform stories from her travels. Expect magical moments, oodles of fun and a fine tale told. A drop in workshop will take place.

Story Shuffle or Kamishibai Shuffle - create a picture for Isabella to improvise a new story from randomly generated images made by you. Pictures will be made in the style of kamishibai (paper theatre) which is said to be at the roots of manga and cartoon.

5/5 We’ve had a lovely time with Isabella, hearing stories of bravery and even making up a few stories of our own in her fabulous workshops.
